Pets Best vs Petplan Summary
Pets Best is among the best insurers offering comprehensive insurance plans for cats and dogs.
They extend two wellness package levels that include routine treatment and care. Like other pet insurance companies, PetsBest provides standard coverage for items like exam fees, prescription medications, and even alternative therapy.
They stand out from other companies by doing away with age restrictions for either dogs or cats. Nevertheless, the company only includes unlimited benefits with their more expensive plans.
Petplan is consistently rated as one of the best pet insurance companies from overall coverage to customer service.
Petplan’s comprehensive is among the few we have reviewed that includes veterinary exam fees (as long as it is not a routine checkup).
Their flexible plans make it easy for its customers to customize their plans. Just like PetsBest, if you have an older dog or cat, Petplan doesn’t have an age limit for dogs or cats.

PetPlan vs. PetsBest Benefit Limits
Petplan has more options in their benefit levels and even include up to unlimited benefits while Pets Best offers unlimited benefits only with their more expensive plan.
PetsBest’ Elite plan is the only level that has an unlimited benefit option. The two lower-tiered policies have an annual benefit that caps $5,000, a very limiting amount when you consider the current costs of treatment; a hurt paw could easily cost $6,000.
Petplan benefit limit choices are from $2,500 up to $25,000 or even an unlimited option.
What makes Petplan unique is that their policies don’t have per-condition limits or even lifetime limits. This is a nice option to have for pets that have diseases or conditions that need several vet visits for treatment. Only their higher-end plan has an unlimited benefit option.

A happy energetic Luna one morning couldn’t hold her food down. After months of multiple costly vet visits to specialists and an endoscopy, the problem was discovered and fixed. Luna put 22 pounds back on in no time and her parents were grateful for having PetFirst by their side to pay the bills.
Pets Best vs Petplan Deductibles Compared
Both Pets Best and Petplan have flexible annual deductibles, but Petplan goes one step further and allows you to opt for either an annual or what’s called a per-condition deductible.
Pets Best does provide deductible options starting at $50 all the way up to $1000. Pets Best is the only pet insurance provider with an option of a deductible as low as $50.
Choosing a higher deductible will save you money on the monthly premium, but your pay-out costs will be higher if your pet ever requires vet care. And at a lower deductible, the monthly premium will be higher, but your portion of the bill will be lower.
PetsBest also offers two wellness plans. With wellness plans, you don’t have to meet a deductible which allows you to be reimbursed as soon as possible.
Wellness plans, some of the procedures they offer are check-ups, vaccinations, and even spaying and/or neutering your pet. (For more information, read our “How much does it cost to neuter a dog?“).
They start at $16 a month for the lower end wellness plan and $26 a month for the upper-tier wellness program.
Petplan gives you an option of either an annual or per-incident deduction. Deductibles range anywhere from $100 all the way to $2,500 in $50 increments.
The “per-condition” deductible means you can go to the vet as many times as needed for a specific medical illness or injury.
This means that if you have multiple claims for a similar condition, you only pay the deductible once.
This plan could be appealing to pet owners whose dogs or cats have a serious disease or conditions that need treatment.
You can also choose the one-time deductible each year. If you prefer a less expensive monthly rate, then you may want to choose a higher deductible.

Petplan vs Pets Best Reimbursement Compared
Pets Best gives you the option of setting your reimbursement at 70%, 80%, and 90%. This is a consistent feature of the best pet insurance providers PetsBest also pays out on the actual vet bills as do the other top providers. As with deductibles, the higher the monthly premium, the more you will get reimbursed for that claim.
Petplan similarly works on a percentage reimbursement structure and will pay the portion of your actual veterinarian bill after the deductible has been met. The percentages available are 70%, 80%, and 90%. The higher the reimbursement percentage that you choose, the higher the premium.
PetsBest also pays you back on the vet medical bills.
