Pin Paws Pet Care is a pet identification tag that allows pet parents to easily track their dog (or cat) if they get lost.
It’s essentially an ID tag that your dog wears and if he runs away or gets lost, the tag can then be scanned and it will have information on how to reach you as well anything else that might be important or relevant to your dog.
When the tag is scanned, you will even get a text with the exact geographical location of your dog or cat.
Pin Paws Pet Care teamed up with PetFirst to offer pet insurance as well as their identification tags.
PetFirst has all of its policies underwritten by the New Hampshire Insurance Company (NHIC).
Pin Paws pet care does not offer all of the plans that PetFirst provides with only two different plans offered and no wellness plan options.
However, they do offer the same prices for pet insurance regardless of the age, breed or location of your pet which can be a real benefit and save you money, particularly as your pet ages.

Real Cost Savings from PetFirst Clients
Luna
PetFirst saved his parents
$6,712
A happy energetic Luna one morning couldn’t hold her food down. After months of multiple costly vet visits to specialists and an endoscopy, the problem was discovered and fixed. Luna put 22 pounds back on in no time and her parents were grateful for having PetFirst by their side to pay the bills.
Holistic & Alternative Therapy
Pin Paws Care includes alternative and holistic therapy in their four different plans.
Some of the treatments include the following:
- Chiropractic Care
- Acupuncture
- Reiki
- Rehabilitation
Benefit Limit Choices
Pin Paws offers two choices of annual benefit limits: $2,000 and $5,000.
Some of the better pet insurance plans such as Healthy Paws offers unlimited benefits.
By having lower benefit limits, it can help keep the pricing down. But, if your cat or dog is seriously hurt or very ill, the medical bills could become costly and neither coverage amount would be sufficient.
Reimbursement Method
Pin Paws offers only one reimbursement level of 90%.
While that is a generous rate of reimbursement, most pet insurance plans offer reimbursement choices from 70% up to 90%.
Deductible Options
Pin Paws offers one annual deductible choice of $100.
Similarly, one deductible is just not enough of a choice when plans like Embrace, Petplan and all the others give you many choices of deductibles
How Much Does Pin Paws Pet Care Cost?
The cost of Pin Paws Pet Care is a little more expensive than others we have reviewed that give you more options of coverage although it does include the following:
Pin Paws (lost pet notification tag with online pet profile)
whiskerDocs (24/7 pet telehealth/ access to a vet 24/7- 365 via phone, text or email)
Rx Valet for Pets (discounts on preventatives and prescription medications for pets).
These added benefits are a very nice addition to each plan.
However, they spell out the exact pricing which is certainly good to know.
4 Plans Offered by Pin Paws Pet Care
There are two plans for cats and two plans for dogs – all plans have one reimbursement rate of 90% and one deductible choice of $100. The low deductible for their 90% reimbursement is unusual in pet insurance and a great benefit of Pin Paws.
All plans have a $15 one-time enrollment fee.
Cat Plans
The cat plans are broken down into the following:
- With their $2,000 Annual Max Benefit Limit plan, the price: $52.95 a month.
This plan includes Pin Paws Id and Pin Paws Prescription Discount.
- With their $5,000 Annual Max Benefit Limit plan, the price: $62.95 a month.
This plan includes Pin Paws Id and Pin Paws Prescription Discount.
Dog Plans
The dog plans are broken down into the following:
- With their $2,000 Annual Max Benefit Limit plan, the price: $77.95 a month.
This plan includes Pin Paws Id and Pin Paws Prescription Discount.
- With their $5,000 Annual Max Benefit Limit plan, the price: $99.95 a month.

How to File a Claim with Pin Paws
Claims are handled through PetFirst and are very basic and can be filled out quickly.
You simply pay your vet bill up front and then submit the claims form with all the relevant invoices and receipts by email or fax.
All claims and documents need to be submitted within 90 days of the treatment or invoice date.
PetFirst will send you a reimbursement check by mail from 10 to 14 days from the date they processed your claim.
Pin Paws Enrollment & Waiting Periods

- Patellar luxations: 14 days

Final Thoughts on Pin Paws Pet Care
While Pin Paws pet insurance options are very limited, if you already have their Pet Id tracking device, it could be a benefit to enroll in pet insurance through them.
Due to their lack of choices, though, it would make much more sense to enroll in PetFirst directly so you have more choices.
Take a look at Pin Paws Pet Insurance and see if their device and/or insurance is of interest to you.
You can also go directly to PetFirst to see how their pricing works.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why enroll in Pin Paws Plans when you can go straight to PetFirst?
There really is only one reason to sign up for Pin Paws Pet Care rather than PetFirst and that is that you already own a Pin Paws Pet Id tag or would like to get one.
While the pet insurance options are very limited with only 2 choices, you do get the added value of the tracking id and their prescription service. It just makes having all your pet policies all under one site.
Which alternative treatments are offered?
When you have an older pet or injured pets, alternative therapy treatments are less invasive forms of therapy.
Some of the different therapies offered are the following: acupuncture, homeopathic therapy reiki, physical therapy, and even hydrotherapy.
Are there any age limits with Pin Paws Pet Care?
No. Dogs and cats of any age can be enrolled in their pet insurance. Because they offer two different pricing plans, the cost for an older pet is actually very reasonable.
In fact, whether you have a puppy or an older dog, the pricing is exactly the same.
Are there any exclusions on coverage?
Pin Paws Pet Care, like most other insurance providers, won’t cover pre-existing conditions that have occurred, pregnancy-related conditions, injuries from neglect or any type of elective procedure.
They also don’t offer any preventative care that is typically offered under a wellness plan.
Does Pin Paws Pet Care offer wellness plans?
No, they don’t. While PetFirst does offer a few different <a href=”https://staging.petinsuranceu.com/pet-wellness-plans/” data-abc=”true”>wellness plans</a>, Pin Paws doesn’t. If that is of interest to you, then you should sign up with PetFirst directly.
