Burmese cats are loving and outgoing. They love to play, snuggle and talk to their people.

This breed descended from one chocolate cat named Wong Mau, brought from Burma by a sailor in the 1920s.

He gave the female to a Siamese breeder, who started pairing her with seal-point Siamese cats.

The kittens from this litter produced some that resembled Wong, which was bred back to her to produce a dark brown kitten with no markings.

Burmese cats are just as at risk of hereditary conditions as any other type of cat breeds. While they are generally quite healthy, sometimes there are issues that arise that can be quite painful.

Some Burmese cats are born suffering from deformities of their cranium, feline hyperaesthesia syndrome, and glaucoma.

Feline Hyperaesthesia Syndrome makes them extremely sensitive to being touched or hurt, the sensations of which are intensified.

The breed also appears to be somewhat prone to developing calcium oxalate stones in their urinary tract, which often leads to infection and is very painful. This needs to be treated and prevented.
