Nationwide Coverage Details
Nationwide plans are a little different than most other pet insurance companies.
With Nationwide, you can purchase their Whole Pet plan which includes the wellness option. While this is a nice benefit, it makes their different plans on the pricey side.
Nationwide’s Whole Pet with Wellness plan is extremely comprehensive.
Besides just the normal coverage for the typical accidents and illnesses, the wellness plans include annual vet visits, all vaccinations, and even flea prevention.
This a nice addition but it makes it much more costly. This plan even includes the coverage of hip dysplasia.
Nationwide’s Major Medical is priced competitively and similar to some of the other companies.
The dogs and cats are covered for the more common medical condition and include cancer and hereditary conditions.
Conditions that are chronic are covered at no extra cost; however, pet owners are not reimbursed for wellness visits each year.
The Major Medical plan can be purchased as your one plan and then add a wellness policy.
Under this plan, there is a specific payout listed for each accident or illness. This can become an issue if your dog or cat gets really hurt or sick.
The Wellness Plan includes the usual wellness exams and test from microchipping to vaccination.
If you purchase just the wellness plans, the pricing is reasonable.
Hereditary and congenital conditions are covered only on their more expensive Whole Pet plan.

Embrace Coverage Details
Embrace standard plan will include the usual coverage that includes all illnesses and all accidents.
It also covers treatments that most insurers with alternative treatments and even different kinds of prosthetics.
Embrace even covers your veterinarian pet exam fee which is unique.
Because each plan offers the same coverage options, Embrace makes it easier to budget and personalize your plans.
You can help to choose and control the deductible, reimbursement and benefit limit.
Embrace offers a Wellness Rewards that gives you a choice of 3 different coverage amounts to pay for vet visits, spaying and neutering, and other preventative care options.
The allowance offered is from $250 to a $650 allowance.
Embrace offers alternative therapy coverage which includes acupuncture, chiropractic care, physical therapy, hydrotherapy, and laser therapy.
Nationwide has only a limited coverage amount for conditions that are genetic of hereditary in their Major Medical plan.
Embrace, on the other hand, covers congenital and hereditary conditions in all policies as long as they aren’t what is considered as pre-existing.
Benefit Limits For Nationwide vs Embrace
Nationwide’s unlimited benefit option is only included in what they call their Whole Pet Plan.
Its less expensive plans have set limits for specific conditions which is determined by a specific benefit schedule.
It can be very easy to exceed this limit if your cat or dog has any type of injury or illness that exceeds these limits.
Embrace does offer some limits that a policyholder can customize. But the highest limit is really not enough if a dog or cat gets seriously hurt.
They don’t have an unlimited benefits option like some other providers.
The limit is $30,000 maximum in all states except NY where it is $15,000, unless you use their phone enrollment where coverage is offered unlimited in most states.

Deductibles For Embrace vs Nationwide
Nationwide offers one deductible option- $250. While this makes the choice easier, it can make it pricier.
Embrace offers a much broader range of deductible options.
Nationwide’s per-incident deductibles mean that you need to file a new claim for every new condition.
Their annual deductible needs to occur just once a year. Their plans offer either the one-time annual deductible or not deductible at all.
Embrace offers many deductible choices of:
$200, $300, $500, $750, and up to $1,000 making them easier to customize.
Embrace policyholders can save $50 each year on their deductible when no reimbursement is received. They call it their Healthy Deductible option.
Wellness Rewards claims for routine care are reimbursed separately.
As with most policies, if you choose a higher deductible choice you will end up with a lower premium.

Reimbursement Considerations Nationwide vs Embrace
With Nationwide’s top plan, the reimbursement offered is 90% of the vet bill which means the premium price will go up.
Their least expensive plans only reimburse on their listed benefit schedule. This will only pay a specific limit on certain illnesses or conditions.
This might become an issue your dog or cat has a condition that exceeds their lower benefit limits.
Embrace’s reimbursement options are the most varied of all companies. You can opt for 70% or up to 90% of the vet bill.
Embrace has 3 different wellness options:
- $250
- $450
- $650
Pricing Nationwide Vs. Embrace

Nationwide’s Major Medical Plan Coverage starts at $33 for dogs and $17 for cats.
5 % discount is offered if you have renters or homeowners insurance with Nationwide or have multiple pets enrolled.

The starting monthly premiums for dogs are around $14 and cats can be enrolled for $10.
A 10% discount is available for enrolling multiple pets (except in NY where it is 5%), you can save $12 by paying your annual fee all at once, and you are eligible for a discount if you are a member of the military.
